This Souvenirs & Events item is sold by PoemObject. Ships from Bluefield, WV. Listed on 15 Mar, 2024
Vintage Old West glazed ceramic wall plate showing, in low relief, several buildings on Front Street, including the Long Branch Saloon, in Dodge City, Kansas. The plate also depicts a gunfight, with a gunman dressed in black standing over his dead victim, lying in the street (Shoot-Em-Up Jake, buried in 1876). This colorful collectible plate measures 5 1/2 x 7 1/2 x 3/4". There is no maker's mark, however it was probably made in Japan c. 1960s. There's a string on the back to hang it on the wall, or it could sit flat on a tabletop as an ashtray, trinket dish, or just a funky kitschy accent piece. It's in very good vintage condition with no chips, cracks, or crazing. There is a small loss of black paint on the gunfighters hat. Please see photos for details. "In 1958, the first buildings of the Front Street Replica were built. As the original Front Street buildings had been destroyed by fire in 1885, this would give visitors an opportunity to walk on the boardwalk and to relive Dodge City of that era. As the Boot Hill Museum and Front Street grew, the famous Long Branch Variety show was created in 1957 to entertain visitors and is one of the longest running seasonal variety shows in the nation." - kansas sampler foundation
